Oil painting-portraits have a long history
Oil portraits have been a popular art form for centuries. During the Renaissance, painters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael began using oil colours to create realistic portraits of the nobility and other rich and powerful people. Oil portraits then became common during the Baroque and Rococo periods.
The technique of oil colours allows painters to create realistic and detailed portraits with depth and lustre. By mixing different colours and using different brushes and techniques, painters can create different effects and styles in their portraits.
In the 19th century and beyond, oil portraits became more accessible to the public as photography technology became more common. However, oil portraiture remained an important art form and many artists continue to create beautiful and impressive portraits using oil colours to this day.
Oil portraits tend to cost more than other portraits, partly because of the price of the paint and partly because of drying times and procedures that make them more time-consuming to produce. But if you've come to this page, it's probably just what you're looking for, solid craftsmanship in the classic way.
How much does an oil portrait cost?
The price for an oil painting is between 5000 - 10000 SEK. It may cost less if the portrait is not to be detailed, and it may cost more if the portrait is to contain many details, attributes, several individuals or has large dimensions.
As a rule, JNArt takes a deposit of half the amount before the original is created.
Style and genre of oil portraits
JNArt creates detailed realistic oil paintings. The portraits may be inspired by the styles that you as a customer find on the page, please refer to any image on the page when ordering. JNArt may also find inspiration in other styles or genres, please refer to this when ordering.

How long to order an oil painting portrait?
The time to order a portrait in oil varies between 2 - 4 weeks depending on the length of the queue. It can be done faster in some cases.
Rich in detail - JNArt makes oil portraits in three levels of detail:
Oil paintings can be painted in many layers and there is really no limit to how detailed they can be. Oil paint is a highly pigmented colour, which makes it possible to create paintings rich in contrast. JNArt distinguishes the level of detail based on whether or not individual brushstrokes can be discerned at close range. An oil painting with a lower level of detail may appear more expressive and contain more energy but not as realistic. An oil portrait may be seen as more static but also more realistic. What you choose as a client is a matter of taste. If you like paintings with more abstract elements or have a limited budget, a lower level of detail may be preferable. If you like realism instead, a higher level of detail is more suitable.

Low level of detail
Low detail is seen as a whole from a distance. When the viewer goes close, clear brushstrokes or colour fields are visible.

Medium level of detail
These images are seen as a whole both from a distance and up close (about half a metre). More time is available for proportions and colour choices to be more realistic. It is generally easier to recognise the model(s).

High level of detail
High detail images are those with a high budget and where the focus is on being as realistic and detailed as possible.
Describe the subject for a more personalised portrait
The original painting should be personalised and full of life. To make this possible, you can tell me about the subject in the ordering process and find the conditions that suit you as the client. Based on your wishes, JNArt will create a personalised portrait in oil.
How do I order a portrait in the medium of oil?
First, the customer makes an order enquiry via email, telephone or the order form under "order portrait". Then JNArt and the customer agree on the framework of the assignment. Then JNArt creates the original. The customer then sees a copy of the finished image and, upon approving the result, the painting is varnished and sent in tandem with the final payment.
Who is the oil painter doing the job?
The artist who paints your portrait is Johannes Nygren, who has his studio in the artist-centred area Majorna in Gothenburg. Here he finds inspiration from many talented portrait painters in the region. The artist has gained knowledge of oil painting mainly from the oil painter Christin Björk and the classic oil painting programme Florence Art Academy located in Mölndal.
