This is for you who are seeking a unique memento or an unforgettable gift. The result will be a timeless and colourful painting in acrylic paint with guaranteed high artistic quality.

Ordering an acrylic painting - how does it work?

1. Submit your request and your photo: You contact me with your wishes regarding size and attach the photograph (or photographs) you want me to base it on. We will agree on the framework.

2. Sketch and review: Before I start painting, I do a compositional sketch. You will get to see the sketch and approve it, so that we are in complete agreement about the feel and layout.

3. Painting and Delivery: I am painting your portrait in my studio in Gothenburg. When the painting is finished, I will send you a digital image for your final approval before it is carefully packaged and delivered to your home.

What is the cost of ordering an acrylic portrait?

The price is primarily based on the size of the canvas and the complexity of the motif (for example, the number of people in the painting). Contact me with your requirements and I will quickly get back to you with an exact price. The price of an acrylic painting is usually 3000-8000kr.

Why order acrylic paintings from JNArt?

As a professional artist since 2009, my work is built on solid technique and meticulous material choices. An acrylic painting offers fantastic opportunities for both depth and dynamism. Acrylic allows me to work with powerful brushstrokes, rich colour pigments, and exciting textures directly onto high-quality canvas. The drying times are shorter than for oil, but the result can be equally impressive.

Giving or investing in a hand-painted portrait is to freeze a precious moment in time. In a world of fleeting digital filters, a genuine acrylic portrait offers a sense of permanence and exclusivity that no print can match. Whether it's a wedding gift, a beautiful painting of a child, an animal portrait, or a memorial piece, I transform your photograph into a living work of art that captures the personality behind the subject.

An absolutely stunning charcoal painting of five beloved family members.
So incredibly detailed and the resemblance between the painting and the actual dogs is striking. Responsive artist who adapted to the wishes that existed.
Highly recommend JNArt!!!
We asked Johannes to create a painting in connection with a farewell party for two colleagues. It turned out incredible and he really captured both personalities and a lot of details, also within a tight deadline. We are incredibly satisfied and can really recommend Johannes!

Acrylic painting - different levels of detail

Sketch and calibration: Before I start painting, I do a compositional sketch. You will get to see the sketch and approve it, so that we are in complete agreement about the feel and layout.

Low level of detail. For a lower budget, you can get more abstract and graphic acrylic paintings. Here, feeling and speed are key. With quick, precise brushstrokes or sketches, Johannes finds the most important features.

Medium level of detail. emphasises likeness and detailed work in the most important parts of the image. The individual is easily recognisable, with medium-detailed portraits in acrylic.

High level of detail. is for you where a high level of detail is the most important. With a higher budget, there is time to create detailed portraits where precision is the most important. There is also time to paint more detailed backgrounds.

Different styles of acrylic portraits:

If you order a painting created with acrylic paint, you have great freedom to choose the style that suits you. Here you can see a selection of all the styles that can be achieved with acrylic paint.

  • Realistic  Order a realistic portrait painting if you're looking for me to depict the subject true to life.

  • Black and white Many people want classic, monochrome paintings. A black and white acrylic portrait or a monochrome painting in any shade can give a stylish impression.

  • Modern / Colourful  Modern acrylic portraits tend to have more abstract elements. Recognisability can be more or less important. Colourful portrait paintings tend to place greater emphasis on expressive brushstrokes.

Common questions about acrylic paint: Techniques, advantages and disadvantages

What exactly is acrylic paint? Acrylic paint is a fast-drying paint made up of colour pigments mixed with a synthetic acrylic binder (a type of plastic polymer). When the paint is wet, it is water-soluble and can be thinned with ordinary water. However, as soon as it dries, it becomes completely waterproof, impact-resistant, and flexible. The technique hasn't been around as long as oil paint but is estimated to have equivalent durability if treated and preserved correctly.

How does a portrait painting in acrylic differ from an oil painting? The most significant difference lies in drying time. Oil paint dries very slowly (often over several weeks), which allows the artist to move and blend colours directly on the canvas for an extended period. Acrylic paint, on the other hand, dries in a matter of minutes. This necessitates a faster and more direct working method, but also makes it possible to effectively build up a painting in many layers (glazing) without the colours mixing and becoming ”muddy”. Furthermore, acrylic is water-based and virtually odourless, while oil painting requires strong solvents. Oil paint is preferable for extremely detailed portraits, but acrylic paint works well for all other types of portraits.

What is the difference between acrylic paint and watercolour? Watercolour paint is transparent and is painted on paper. In watercolour, you rely on the paper's own whiteness to create light, and you must paint from light to dark. Acrylic paint is fundamentally opaque and is often painted on canvas. This means that I, as an artist, can paint light details – like the glint in an eye, light strands of hair, or sunlight – directly on top of a dark background. This is what creates the fantastic depth and realism in an acrylic portrait.

The main advantages of acrylic paint are:

  • Extreme durability When acrylic paint dries, it forms a flexible surface that neither cracks nor yellows over time, which can unfortunately happen with older oil paintings. Your portrait will retain its lustre for generations.

  • Versatility It's an incredibly dynamic material. The paint can be applied thickly (impasto) to create exciting texture and brushstrokes, or thinned for soft transitions. Above you can see examples of different styles that can be created.

  • Environmentally friendly Since the paint is water-based, toxic fumes or solvents such as turpentine are not needed during the creation process.

  • Lightfastness Professional acrylic paints contain high-quality pigments that do not fade when hung on a wall in a normally lit room.

Are there any disadvantages to acrylic painting?

  • Requires speed and experience Because the paint dries so quickly, it is more difficult to create the extremely soft, smoky transitions between light and shadow that oil paint is known for. It requires a skilled and experienced artist to achieve lifelike skin tones without the result appearing ”blocky”.

  • Colour change upon drying: Acrylic paint tends to dry slightly darker than how it looks when wet on the palette. The artist must therefore have a trained eye to compensate for this and achieve precisely the right colour shades. For certain types of painting, acrylic paint is therefore more difficult than oil.
