Caricatures
Want to learn about what caricatures are, how caricatures are created or buy a caricature? JNArt explains what a caricature is and how you can hire a caricature artist.

Detailed caricatures from reference photo
Buying a caricature usually costs between 800-3500 SEK depending on the choice of technique, level of detail and other factors. It takes about 2-4 weeks to get your caricature delivered. Since 2009, JNArt has created caricatures for hundreds of customers all around Sweden.
What is a caricature?
Caricatures are a representation of a person's characteristic features or posture in an exaggerated way to create a comedic or grotesque effect. The word originated in 17th century Italian painting before spreading to English and then Swedish. A caricature has long been used as satire to ridicule or mock someone or something, often in an elegant and accurate way.
Caricatures also have a long history of being part of parody images, pictures in newspapers with humorous content that have only one panel, as opposed to the comic strip that has several panels. In modern times, caricatures are best known as depictions of politicians, celebrities or sensitive topics of public debate, these types of caricatures are called political caricatures or celebrity caricatures.
Funny caricature
A caricature is often funny or mean, but it always has to be. Caricatures can be used to create a mood, tell a story or shift the focus.
A detailed caricature makes a perfect gift!
What customers usually appreciate most about JNArt caricatures is that it is easy to recognise the person, that it is possible to order scenes with funny events and that the caricatures are humorous.
Caricature artist at events
Quick caricatures can be an appreciated feature at events and parties. Or you may have seen a caricature artist on the street. Doing caricatures at a quick pace is a special artform.
How can I learn to create caricatures?
There are no formal training programmes to become a caricature artist (as far as JNArt knows). The usual method, which also applies to JNArt, is to learn to draw in general, and then learn the specific art form of caricature through training and short courses on the internet, books, or gaining knowledge from other artists.

Contact JNArt if you would like a private lesson in drawing caricatures.

Buy a caricature of a celebrity?
If you want to buy a print (copy) of a specific caricature (for example, a famous picture), you can either go to a website selling posters and see if it is available. Search for words like "caricature" and the name of the celebrity. If you have a photo of the image, the easiest way to find somewhere to buy a copy is to do a reverse image search on Google. You upload the image to the Google image search tool and try to find a page where the image is sold as a copy.
JNArt draws caricatures that are made in some different ways:

Nice caricatures
Where the person is small-bodied and large-headed but the features are not particularly distorted. The person in the image may be surrounded by attributes, objects, other people, animals and background that are connected to the person in different ways.

Common caricatures
A common caricature is an image where facial features are distorted. JNArt takes the liberty of interpreting each person being caricatured. JNArt draws caricatures with distorted features, but where the person is still clearly recognisable.

Satire
Sometimes a customer may ask for the emphasis to be on features being as distorted as possible, which JNArt can do, but the higher the distortion, the higher the risk of offending the person being depicted or making them less recognisable.
JNArt does not draw political satire on commission, mean caricatures of children under the age of 15 or if it is unclear whether there are good intentions behind the image. The client is responsible for how the image is used.
The fact that JNArt creates in many different techniques and expressions means that you as a customer can buy caricatures in a variety of different styles.

I have nothing but superlatives as a judgement and can highly recommend JNArt!
So incredibly detailed and the resemblance between the painting and the actual dogs is striking. Responsive artist who adapted to the wishes that existed.
